Awards have dominated the past week of MLB news, and congratulations to the baseball writers for making the correct selection of Felix Hernandez as the AL Cy Young winner. Despite only 13 wins, Hernandez dominated all season long and didn't shy away from the hill, logging almost 250 innings.
The bigger news in baseball is the most recent deal at the GM meetings between Florida and Atlanta. After failing to agree on a long term deal with Dan Uggla, the Marlins traded the power hitting second baseman to Atlanta for Omar Infante and relief pitcher Mike Dunn. If Martin Prado and Chipper Jones are healthy, Atlanta figures to have an infield capable of putting together some offense to help out the stellar pitching. The deal isn't so bad for Florida, either. Recognizing an inability to keep a player with rare power at the second base position, the Marlins improved their defense and acquired a young arm while decreasing the budget as well. That's the current state of Major League Baseball, and for some teams, those are the only victories that can be managed.
